The Resorts

What is most stellar about the summit county area is all the places to shred! They are all great for different reasons. Here is the low down on the closest Rocky mountain resorts:

Echo Mountain: First up 35 miles from Denver at 10,500 ft. above the sea is Echo Mountain. A nice little mountain with lots of park and little crowds. To ride the 16 runs for the day will set an adult back just $49 bucks on a regular day or $55 during the holiday season. So if you love park, short lines, and have a budget, head to Echo for a fun time.
www.echomt.com

Winter Park: Not headin' to Summit County? Take exit 232, head over Berthoud Pass and find yourself at the winter wonderland of Winter Park. Winter Park has 23 lifts transporting you to 133 runs with a base of 45 inches of snow. Love you some moguls? Go right next door to find Mary Jane, totally ungroomed mogul runs. Hours of Operation at WP are 9am-4pm weekdays and 8:30 open on weekends. Money out of pocket is currently $97 for an adult full day.

Loveland: A few minutes past the ever so lovely town of George (aka Georgetown), is a sweet little mountain called Loveland. Only $59 dollars for an adult to ride the 50 inches of base, 8 lifts, and 87 runs. Elevation is 12,700 hours: 9-4 or 8:30 early bird gets the worm on the weekends.

Arapahoe Basin: Drive over loveland pass and you will find my favorite resort. A-basin as the locals call it is great on a powder day, has the longest season, and a very dog friendly parking lot. It is like the Cannonsburg of the Rockies. Shorter runs, but a guaranteed good time. Short walk from parking lot to lift. There are 7 lifts bringing you to explore 94 trails. Ride to the top which is 13, 050 ft. above the sea and ride to the bottom over a base of 46 inches... more on it's way. A day at the basin will set you back 69 Washington's or 58 for a half day.

Keystone: Either continue over Loveland Pass or get off at the Dillon/Silverthorne Exit off I-70 and find your way to Keystone. A Vail owned resort that is the only place to go night riding! On weekends or during the holidays you can ride from 8:30 until 8pm! Keystone has free parking in the Montezuma lot, and a short walk to the gondola! Take a Cat ride for 5 bucks in the outback to get to where the lifts can't take you! Currently 20 lifts are running and 125 runs are open. Keystone has a little for everyone. Take Ranger to have a short beginner run like in the Midwest, School Marm for a long enjoyable ride, or go the the outback to get steep terrain and explore some trees:) Also great for beginners because you can take the gondola back down if you are tired or maybe a little scared. Current ticket price is 99 buckaroos to ride over a 37 in base.

Breckenridge: You can see the runs from the top of Keystone. Just drive around the Dillon Reservoir to find yourself in the historic little town of Breck. This mountain has been getting hit hard this year, both with tourists and snow. Yin and Yang. Host of the Dew Tour 2010, Breck has a gondola that takes you right from downtown to the base of the mountain. This gondola opens at 8 am, lifts open at 8:30 weekends, 9am weekdays. All lifts close at 4, but gondola to town keeps running until 5 pm to allow for that after shred beverage. A little trickier to park. Either pay 5-20 bucks, or try to find a free lot and take the free bus to the gondola. The Ice Rink, French Street lots, or Airport lots can fill up, but it is free. Breck has 31 lifts, 154 runs open, and a base depth of 55 inches. Stay away from peak 8 if you want to avoid crowds. Take the T bar on a powder day, and enjoy the always celebrated terrain park.

Copper: A few minutes past Frisco on I 70 is Copper Mountain. Copper is super fun and has a great base area where you can sit outside on the deck at Jack's, drink a beer and watch people coming down the hill and through the half pipe. Currently Copper has a mid mountain base of 48 inches and and upper mountain base of 57. Parking is free and has a free shuttle from lot to lift:) Window ticket price is $96 but if you want to save some dough buy online and save $22!

Vail: About 40 minutes drive from Summit County is Vail Mountain. Vail is every one's favorite on a powder day. A little more ritzy and fancy the ticket will set you back at least $100, and the parking will add to the total cost as well. Currently the base depth is 42''. There are 31 lifts and 191 trails open to shred. Vail is rad for its 7 bowls, 3 terrain parks, and 5,289 acres of freeride terrain.
www.vail.com

Beaver Creek: Just past Vail is another fancy mountain called Beaver Creek. Employees get paid to stand and hand out tissues to guests with runny noses, that is pretty fancy if you ask me. Famous for the non existent lift lines and chocolate chip cookies, Beaver Creek has a 32 inch base depth, 24 lifts, and 141 runs.

Welcom To The Mountains!

Welcome to the mountains. After 2 knee surgeries and grey winters in Michigan I had to leave the midwest lovin' for the sunny, snowy rockies. I still have mad love for the midwest, but now you can follow my adventures, experiences, and snowboard life here in Summit County Colorado! Stay tuned for more fun:)

Get Your Otis On

If you have ever frequented W3 on a Saturday, then you might know Otis, the shop dog. He appears to be lean and mean, but is really a mellow man who works hard for his doggy treats. People have fallen in love with this employee and have even gone so far as to call and ask, "Is Otis working today?" And now his handsome mug is being put in ink onto the new shop tee's. The white, black, or baby blue shirt is available in both men and women's sizes. So while you're out doing your last minute Holiday shopping, get yourself a little something too, and get your Otis On!
